Phoebe Gardener (she/her)
People & Ops Manager
BIO: I got my start as an organizer as an undergrad at Dartmouth College where I organized other students to support campus workers as they renegotiated their union contract. Since then, I have spent the last ten years organizing first with immigrant worker centers in New England and then with the national immigrant rights movement Cosecha.
With the worker centers, I organized against wage theft and other workplace abuses, learning how direct action campaigns and leadership development create powerful grassroots organizations to fight for dignity for immigrant workers. As a field organizer and part of the national coordination staff with Movimiento Cosecha, I brought my organizing experience to help build a national movement for permanent protection, dignity, and respect for all undocumented people.
Working with Matahari is a welcome return to worker center organizing, but with a strong gender analysis, which I have always wanted. My goal is to support Matahari to be an organizing powerhouse where women and femme migrant workers help set the agenda in Massachusetts!
My favorite workplace memory is: Kicking off 2024 with a lively debate with Matahari members on theory of change at our Community Fellows weekend-long training!
My zodiac signs are: Gemini, Taurus Rising, Aquarius Moon (but Iβm also a 4 on the enneagram, if that catches your attention)
When Iβm not at work you can find me: Hiking with my dog, taking pictures of every tree I see, reading my novels, doing my therapy, and trying on new Jewish rituals
